Salamanca Guijuelo WWTP

With the aim of transforming the municipal WWTP into a biofactory capable of integrating the advanced management of urban sludge with the energy recovery of waste from the local meat industry, an experimental platform was installed that included a thermal hydrolysis pilot plant designed and implemented by teCH4+.

In addition to municipal WWTP sludge, industrial sludge, blood, fats, hair and slurry were processed: all of them by-products with high potential and significant operational challenges. The experience showed that thermal hydrolysis is a key tool for maximising biodegradability and biogas production, and opened up new avenues for the advanced co-digestion of agro-industrial waste.
